a place of one's own
Cretan cooking, wood-aged wines and complimentary raki — the way locals have eaten here for four decades.
A note from the kitchen
“The best meals are the ones you didn't plan. A table under the olive tree, a jug of wine, and whatever is fresh that morning.”
— The Papadakis family
From the kitchen
01Slow-roasted lamb with tomato, zucchini and potatoes — cooked for hours until it falls from the bone.
02Spit-roasted pork, warm pita, tzatziki and fresh tomato-onion salad.
03Our take on the classic gemistá — creamy tomato-herb risotto finished with strained yoghurt.

Our story
Steki opened in 1978 when Nikos Papadakis pulled six tables into a narrow alley behind the Venetian harbour. There was no menu — only whatever his wife Eleni had cooked that morning.
Three generations later, the recipes haven't changed. The tomatoes still come from the family plot in Kolymvari. The olive oil is pressed by a cousin in Vamos. The raki, as ever, is on the house.

Under the olive tree
Our courtyard seats forty. In summer we recommend booking a few days ahead — it fills quickly, and the sunset waits for no one.
